International Women's Day Concert.

Featuring Stella Angelico, Sophie Koh, Jessica Hitchcock, The Black Sistaz and Kathleen Halloran. With DJ Maddy Mac (free in the Festival Hub bar)

Stripped back to acoustic piano, guitar and vocals, hear thought-provoking lyrics, storytelling and the sheer beauty of songs in their purest form from the enigmatic and powerful voices of Australia’s most evocative singer-songwriters. From love songs to political protest anthems, each singer presents her own experiences via honest prose and soaring melodies.

Featuring:

Stella Angelico, whose voice and violent hip-shaking performances are a fervent explosion of the untamed feminine. She is a woman who sings because she must.

Award winning multi-instrumentalist and composer Sophie Koh, who evokes the splendour of pop, is influenced by Chinese poetry and Western classical music and explores where East meets West.

The Black Sistaz - three singers with a powerful message and standing strong. Lea, Rosa and Petra Rumwaropen are the daughters of the late August Rumwaropen of the legendary Black Brothers Band of West Papua.

Award-winning opera singer, actor and songwriter Jessica Hitchcock, an up-and-coming performer who radiates, with an amazing ability to connect with her audience and family origins from Saibai in the Torres Strait.

Guitarist Kathleen Halloran who has performed alongside renowned greats including Kate Ceberano, Kate Miller-Heidke, Tim Rogers, Steve Kilbey (The Church), Harry Angus (Cat Empire) and jazz pianist Barney McAll.

PBS 106.7FM presenter DJ Maddy Mac (Homebrew), champion of local, independent music, who will be taking over the turntables to take us on a journey through her record collection, free in the Festival Hub bar before and after the show.
